At Risk Classes
Are you at risk for diabetes?
This 3 hour class will discuss healthy living approaches which will help you reduce risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes. Classes available in Charlottetown and Summerside only. Montague, Souris and O'Leary clinics offer classes as needed, or one on one appointments.
Drop In Blood Glucose Testing (Charlottetown clinic only)
One afternoon per month, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. the Diabetes Program (Charlottetown Clinic only) hosts a "Drop In" Blood Glucose Testing service. This service is available to the general public.
Getting Started Classes (Read More)
For those newly diagnosed with diabetes, we offer two 3 hour classes. We review the basics of diabetes to help you 'get started' in living with diabetes. 'Getting Started' is offered at each clinic site. Refer to the 2010 Program Schedule for specific dates in your area.
After we receive your referral from your physician we will call you to attend the program. You can also refer yourself to this introductory class.
Individual Appointments and Follow-Up (Read More)
Make an appointment today with the diabetes nurse educator, dietitian and health education consultant to discuss healthy management of your diabetes.
Insulin Initiation and Follow-Up
The Provincial Diabetes Program provides individual assessment, counselling and followup for clients requiring insulin therapy. Clients are referred for this service by their physician. Contact the Diabetes Program in your area for more information.
Laboratory Collection (Charlottetown clinic only)
For the convenience of clients attending the Charlottetown Diabetes Clinic, the program offers Lab Collection Services. This service is offered the first and third Friday of the month.
Pediatric Education and Follow-Up Clinic (Read More)
The Pediatric Diabetes Program is a cooperative effort between the Provincial Diabetes Program, the Pediatric Clinic and pediatricians at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Prince County Hospital Children and teens being followed by any of the pediatricians in the province of PEI are welcome to utilize this service.
Pregnancy and Diabetes
The Diabetes Program provides individual assessment, counseling and followup for pregnant women with pre-existing type 1 or type 2 diabetes and those with gestational diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance of pregnancy. Contact the Diabetes Program for more information.
